Prince Sirki Silences The Robot

From beyond the Veil, Prince Sirki has reached out and silenced a voice that baby boomer Science-Fiction fans have known and loved for years.

Dick Tufeld, the voice of the Lost In Space Robot passed away on January 22, 2012 at the age of 85, according to a post by Bill Mumy on Facebook. Tufeld also served as narrator for LOST IN SPACE, and he supplied the voice of the re-designed B9 in the 1998 big screen version. Tufeld also was a narrator for various Disney series, including ZORRO which coincidentally starred future LIS co-star, Guy Williams.

Among other work included narrating two other Irwin Allen shows, TIME TUNNEL and VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. as well as Hanna-Barbera’s FANTASTIC FOUR and THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN.

The man who provided the movement for the ‘Cantankerous Clunk”- as Dr. Smith might call him – Bob May, passed away in 2009.

The LOST IN SPACE Robot is easily as big an icon of sci-fi & pop-culture as his counterpart, ROBBY THE ROBOT (both created by Robert Kinoshita) from FORBIDDEN PLANET, although Robby has nowhere near the voice recognition of B9’s frequently used “DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!” which has become part of the American lexicon.
