Happy 59th Anniversary, BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS! draconicverses, June 13, 2012 Greetings friends! Ye Olde Dragon here, reminiscing about one of my all time fave films, THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS. The creation of special effects legend Ray Harryhausen was relased on this day back in 1953. Today it is still regarded as a classic monster film. Very basic story: H-Bomb goes BOOM, frees frozen dinosaur, dinosaur goes nuts, makes way to major metropolitan area and mayhem ensues. Harryhausen’s monster, the fictional dinosaur called a Rhedosaurus, was so well brought to life through his mastery of stop motion animation, later called Dynamation. This must-see, is considered to be one of the sparks that inspired Tomoyuki Tanaka to co-create Godzilla, in the following year’s release, GOJIRA (1954). One of monster movie-dom’s most memorable moments came in this film when a lone NY beat cop fires his revolver, and as he reloads, the Beast reaches down and grabs him in his mouth and sucks him down like so much linguini! Priceless! Pop this into your player and enjoy! Movies Release Anniversary Beast From 20000 FathomsRay Harryhausen
