Happy (American) Anniversary, Shin Godzilla! draconicverses, October 11, 2023October 11, 2023 Today in 2016, the more horror-aimed take on Godzilla, Hideaki Anno’s SHIN GODZILLA (2016), was released for a limited run in the US, distributed by Funimation. This completely new spin on Godzilla featured the kaiju going thru multiple metamorphoses, until attaining it largest size, emitting a huge swath of destruction, as had never been shown in a Toho Kaiju Eiga. The Defense Force managed to preempt the next stage of the creature’s evolution, which has been the subject of multiple theories. I won’t spoil it, if you haven’t seen it yet. It IS an interesting take, and where the original is a statement about the newfound power and dangers of nuclear bombs, this one seems more focused on the bureaucracy’s ineffectual handling of a crisis, with Japan almost being destroyed from drowning in red tape.
