Happy Birthday Yog & D.A.M.! draconicverses, August 1, 2011 For the THIRD day in a row, we have Kaiju Anniversaries! 43 years ago today, Japanese audiences thrilled to the BIGGEST monster mash they’d ever seen in Kaiju Soshingeki. The following May, Americans would see that DESTROY ALL MONSTERS had more Kaiju in it then you could believe from headliners Godzilla, Rodan & Mothra to cameos from Varan & Kumonga (the giant spider from Son of Godzilla). Meanwhile, GEZORA-GANIME-KAMEBA: KESSEN! NANKAI NO DAIKAIJU (aka Yog, Monster From Space) premiered in Japan 41 years ago. It told the story of a South Seas island plagued by intelligent space amoebas falling from on high and infecting ordinary crabs, turtles and squids, making them grow to monstrous size and rampage. A year and 3 days later, Yog showed up in the U.S. August 1 was actually a VERY busy day for other genre movie debuts. For example: The Omega Man (1971) Voyage To the Prehistoric Planet (1965) Invasion of the Star Creatures (1963) Japanese Monster Movies Movies Release Anniversary GhidorahGhidrahGodzillaGojiraMothraRodanTohoYog
