Release Anniversary: 12/10/94 – Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla! draconicverses, December 11, 2014 Greetings, ‘Zillamaniacs! Ye Olde Dragon here, continuing to salute Toho Effects Films this month, as so many of them have been released throughout the years during the month of December. On this date, 20 years ago, the penultimate film of the Heisei Era Godzilla series was theatrically released in Japan – Kensho Yamashita’s GOJIRA TAI SUPESUGOJIRA, a.k.a. GODZILLA VS. SPACEGODZILLA. This entry continues using story elements from the previous two movies, specifically Mothra still traveling through space towards intercepting the “doomsday meteor” since 1992’s GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA, and the growth/evolving of the baby Godzillasaurus that hatched and went out to sea with Godzilla at the end of GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA (1993). “Baby” had a huge growth spurt, in fact – going from roughly 7 feet high to coming up to Godzilla’s hip. The invading monster is once again a life form created utilizing Godzilla’s DNA. Where in 1989’s GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE it was created in a laboratory, this time it’s more accidental, as a result of Mothra “pollinating” a passing crystalline entity with G-Cells scraped off of Godzilla during their fight. We also have another new Mecha utilized by Japan’s G-Force, modifying the destroyed Mechagodzilla. The result is the Heisei Era’s version of Moguera, previously seen during the Showa Era as the giant burrowing robot in THE MYSTERIANS. Definitely worth grabbing if you don’t already have it, in spite of the cartoonish appearance of Little Godzilla, as he’s now known.
